Meet the Team - Professional Staff
Kate Ackroyd - Senior Trainer
Kate joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre on in 2010 as a Trainer. Kate is a CIPFA member and a former student with CIPFA Education and Training Centre; she had previously been employed by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children as a Project Accountant. Prior to that Kate gained extensive experience of public and third sector consultancy and audit through spells working for Sector and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Kate teaches Diploma (Governance and Public Policy, for which she is also the CIPFA Moderator and Public Finance) and is a member of the Finance and Management Case Study module team. Kate is CIPFA Education and Training Centre’s Module Leader for Public Finance FTPC Strategic Business Management.
Pam Addley - Senior Trainer
Pam joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2001. Previously, Pam was a Senior Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University, teaching on CIPFA, ACCA and CIMA programmes, as well as undergraduate programmes. Before that Pam had a number of years lecturing experience within the further education sector. Pam is a member of the ACCA and she specialises in tax and financial accounting, teaching on Certificate (Financial Accounting and Financial Reporting) and Diploma (Taxation). Pam is CIPFA’s Moderator for Taxation, and is also CIPFA Education and Training Centre’s Taxation Module Leader.
Nicola Campbell – Senior Trainer
Nicola joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2005 having previously worked in a range of finance positions within local government, for the Northants Chamber of Commerce and most recently as a Management Accountant for Northamptonshire Police. Nicola is a member of CIMA; she teaches Management Accounting and Financial Management Systems and Techniques at Certificate level, Accounting for Decision Making at Diploma level and the Finance and Management Case Study for the FTPC. She is also CIPFA Education and Training Centre’s Module Leader for FMCS and CIPFA’s MA examiner.
Julia Cook – Senior Trainer, home based, Cardiff
Julia joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2007 and is teaching primarily at CIPFA Education and Training Centre Wales and CIPFA Education and Training Centre West of England. She qualified with CIPFA in 1992 and brings a wealth of experience to her role at CIPFA Education and Training Centre after working for 17 years at Cardiff County Council in a variety of accountancy positions. Julia teaches Certificate (Financial Accounting and Financial Reporting), Diploma (Financial and Performance Reporting Public Finance and Taxation) and FTPC (Finance and Management Case Study). Julia is CIPFA Education and Training Centre’s Module Leader for FA and CIPFA’s FA Moderator.
Graham Foster – Senior Trainer, Edinburgh based
Graham re-joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2006 after working as Development Manager in CIPFA. Prior to first joining CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2002 he had worked in a variety of positions within local government (especially in internal audit) as well as working for a private sector accountancy firm responsible for the audit of a range of public sector clients. Graham is a CIPFA member and he teaches Diploma (Audit and Assurance, Governance and Public Policy, Leadership and Management and Public Finance, for which he is also the CIPFA Moderator) and at FTPC he contributes to the Strategic Business Management and Finance and Management Case Study modules. Graham is also CIPFA Education and Training Centre’s Module Leader for Audit and Assurance. Graham won the National Students Forum Excellence in Education award in 2011.
Darrell Hurtt - Senior Trainer
Darrell joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 1999 from the National Audit Office. Darrell is a CIPFA member and he teaches on Diploma (Financial and Performance Reporting, Audit and Assurance, Governance and Public Policy, and Public Finance). Darrell is CIPFA Education and Training Centre’s FPR Module Leader, and CIPFA’s Moderator, for FPR.
Debbie Johnston – Senior Trainer
Debbie joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2005 having qualified as a CIPFA member with CIPFA Education and Training Centre South East in 2000. She has worked in the public sector since 1991, working in various finance roles within local government and for a period within central government. Debbie teaches Financial Management, Systems and Techniques and Management Accounting at Certificate level and contributes to the Finance and Management Case Study at FTPC level. She is also the CIPFA Education and Training Centre Module Leader for FMST.
Julie McDonald - Senior Trainer
Before joining CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2005, Julie gained 15 years' experience teaching accounting on a variety of higher and further education programmes for professional, postgraduate and undergraduate students. Julie taught the management accounting units on both the AAT and CIMA qualifications; finance and statistics, financial accounting and financial management at undergraduate level and supervised dissertations at the postgraduate level. At CIPFA Education and Training Centre, Julie (who is a member of the ACCA) teaches Financial Accounting and Financial Reporting at the Certificate level, and Accounting for Decision Making at the Diploma level, for which she is CIPFA Education and Training Centre’s Module Leader. Julie is also CIPFA’s ADM Moderator. Julie won the CIPFA National Students Form Excellence in Education award in 2010.
Richard Pennington – Senior Trainer, Birmingham based
Richard joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2005, having previously worked in accountancy roles for HM Customs and Excise and the private sector in internal audit, VAT audit, finance systems development, project management and management accounting. Richard is a CIMA member and he teaches on Certificate (Management Accounting), Diploma (Audit and Assurance, Public Finance and Taxation), and on the Final Test of Professional Competence (Finance and Management Case Study). He is also the CIPFA Education and Training Centre Module Leader for Managing Accounting.
Helen Price - Trainer, Birmingham based
Helen joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2011 as a Trainer and is based in the Birmingham office. Helen is a CIPFA member and a former student with CIPFA Education and Training Centre. She has previously worked for the Audit Commission and for KPMG LLP, gaining a wealth of external audit experience in the local government, NHS and further education sectors. Helen teaches Financial Management Systems and Techniques at Certificate Level Diploma Accounting for Decision Making and is a member of the Finance and Management Case Study module team.
Jade Quarrell - Senior Trainer, Birmingham based
Jade, a CIPFA member, joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2003. Jade previously worked in a range of finance roles for a large local authority, including audit, financial accounting and management accounting. Jade teaches Certificate (Financial Accounting and Financial Reporting), Diploma (Governance and Public Policy, Financial and Performance Reporting, and Audit and Assurance), and FTPC (Finance and Management Case Study). Jade is CIPFA Education and Training Centre’s Module Leader for GPP.
Alan Wan - Senior Trainer
Alan re-joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2007 after working in local government internal audit. Previously Alan, a CIPFA member, joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 1999 having been employed in public and private sector audit posts. He teaches on Diploma (Audit and Assurance, Leadership and Management and Taxation) and FTPC (Finance and Management Case Study). Alan is CIPFA Education and Training Centre’s Module Leader for LM.
Kim Woods – Senior Trainer
Kim re-joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2008 having previously taught CIMA and AAT courses at a further education college in Surrey since February 2000. Kim is a CIMA member and a registered auditor. She teaches Financial Reporting at Certificate level of the professional qualification and Taxation at Diploma level. Kim won the CIPFA National Students Forum Excellence in Education award in 2007.
Carrie Wright, Trainer, home based, North
Carrie joined the CIPFA Education and Training Centre as a trainer in 2011, teaching primarily at our outlets in the North of England. She is a CIPFA member and a former CETC student. Carrie was previously employed by both the National Audit Office and the Audit Commission, giving her extensive experience of central government, local government and NHS external audit. She teaches Audit and Assurance at Diploma level and is a member of the Finance and Management Case Study module team.
Alison Zimmer – Senior Trainer, home based, North West
Alison Zimmer joined CIPFA Education and Training Centre in 2010 as a Trainer, teaching primarily on the CIPFA North West courses in Liverpool and Manchester . Alison is a CIPFA member and former student with CIPFA Education and Training Centre, and was a final level CIPFA prizewinner in 2009; she had previously been employed by the Audit Commission as a Principal Auditor, gaining extensive experience of local government and NHS external audit. Alison teaches the Certificate Financial Accounting and Financial Reporting and the Finance and Management Case Study modules and is CETC's FR Module Leader.
