CETC Students Win 7 of the 9 CIPFA National FTPC Prizes

Each year CIPFA honours the students with the best performance in the two Final Test of Professional Competence Level exams with awards. There are nine prizes which are based on performance across both the June and December sittings for the Finance and Management Case Study (FMCS) and Strategic Business Management (SBM) papers. The CIPFA Education and Training Centre (CETC) is extremely proud that seven of these nine prizes went to candidates who studied with CETC.

The CETC prize-winning students are:

  • Adrian Griffiths, Herefordshire Primary Care Trust, studied at CETC Midlands and winner of three prizes: Best Overall in Case Study and SBM; 2nd Best Peformance in Case Study; and Best Performance in Case Study and SBM from the Health Service (fourth from left in the above photograph)
  • Ian Young, Audit Commission, studied at CETC South East and winner of two prizes: Best Performance in Case Study and SBM from the Audit Commission; and 2nd Best Performance in SBM (second from left in the photograph)
  • Neil Sartorio, Deloitte MCS Ltd, studied at CETC South East and winner of 3rd Best Performance in Case Study (fifth from left in the photograph)
  • Phillip Trotter, PricewaterhouseCoopers, studied at CETC South East and winner of 3rd Best Performance in SBM (absent from the photograph).

The students were presented with their prizes at the CIPFA Prizewinners' Lunch attended by Caroline Gardner, CIPFA President; Steve Freer, Chief Executive at CIPFA; Adrian Pulham, Education and Training Director at CIPFA; Gary Gilbert, Head of CETC; and Chris Lees, Course Director at CETC Midlands.

Scottish Student Society Awards

In addition to the national prizes, the CIPFA Scottish Student Society award their own prizes to students based in Scotland who have excelled in the Certificate and Diploma level exams. CETC students scooped 8 of the 11 prizes with the following awarded:

  • Louise Robertson, Audit Scotland - best performance in Financial Accounting
  • Lisa Walker, Audit Scotland - best performance in Financial Reporting and best performance in Financial Management Systems & Techniques
  • Matthew Ulyatt, PricewaterhouseCoopers - best performance in Accounting for Decision Making
  • Michael Duff, KPMG - best performance in Financial & Performance Reporting
  • Alison Bell, Inverclyde Council - best performance in Leadership & Management
  • Lynda McCracken, West Lothian Council - best performance in Public Finance and best performance in Taxation

Gary Gilbert, Head of CETC, commented: "We've had a fantastic start to the year with a solid set of pass rates for all centres, which again exceed the CIPFA average often by a substantial margin. And now we have the icing on the cake, the news that our students have scooped so many of the CIPFA national prizes and the Scottish Students' Society prizes. I just want to congratulate all these students on behalf of everyone at CETC."
