CETC Students Strut Their Stuff on the Catwalk
Proving
that accountancy and fashion aren't worlds apart, two CETC students took
part in a fashion show organised by the accountancy student magazine,
PQ, and held in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
The show took place on Tuesday 11 September at Studio Valbonne near Regents Street in central London and featured qualified and part-qualified students from CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW, and AAT who modelled a range of clothes in front of an audience comprised of friends, family, fellow students, lecturers, and staff from the accountancy institutes. Following on the from the catwalk show, guests enjoyed canapés, drinks, and a disco.
The CIPFA models were Tina Pinks, Senior Accountant at Coventry City Council and qualified CIPFA student, and Nick Harvey, part-qualified CIPFA accountant at Herefordshire Council. Tina studied at CETC Midlands and passed her Final Test of Professional Competence (FTPC) level exams in June 2007. Nick also studied at CETC Midlands and just has his FTPC exams and IPDS remaining.
At the time of writing it was not known how much had been raised on the night for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity but all funds raised from the ticket sales (sold for £15 each) and a raffle on the night were donated to the charity.
Look out for a review of the show in the October 2007 issue of PQ magazine but in the meantime the two CIPFA models reveal all about their experience as models....
A Day in the Life of a Model, by Tina Pinks
I
decided to volunteer for the PQ magazine fashion show as it sounded like
a great opportunity to represent my student body, raise some money for
a very worthy charity and have great fun at the same time.
I have spent the last 6 years studying (3 years AAT and 3 years CIPFA)
which has practically wiped my memories of a social life. Since passing
my Final CIPFA exams in June 2007, I am looking for all opportunities
to have fun, so I did not need to be asked twice to prance up and down
a cat walk in girly clothes. The goody bags and free bar were an added
bonus.
The experience was amazing, the organisers were so lovely to us and made
us all feel very special and confident. All of the other models were lovely,
everyone got on so well. We are already arranging a reunion to reminisce
on our 5 minutes of fame!
A Day in the Life of a Male Model, by Nick Harvey
The
day of the fashion show was certainly a very different day, that started
in a familiar vein but with a different train company from usual (only
20 minutes late into Paddington! -keep up the great work guys!) Anyway
I digress... The rest of the day was far from ordinary, but the guys (and
girls) at PQ magazine, who were as new to a catwalk as I was, made sure
we all knew our way around it for the show.
And what a show! Even though it seemed to be over in the blink of an eye, it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career (those extra hours in the gym certainly paid-off!) and we all made some great new friends. But the main reason was one of those that inspired me to sign-up in the first place: We raised a tidy sum (TBC) for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, a charity that is personally close to my heart.
