CETC tutor wins NSF Excellence in Education award for 5th year running
For the fifth year in succession CIPFA students from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) have honoured a CIPFA Education and Training Centre (CETC) tutor as their best CIPFA course tutor by awarding Julie McDonald the 2010 National Student Forum (NSF) Excellence in Education prize.
This prestigious award is given to the CIPFA course tutor, from any CIPFA course provider, who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to CIPFA students and delivered exceptional tuition throughout their courses.
This year NSF received a record 90 votes nominating 31 individual tutors, 19 of which are CIPFA Education and Training Centre tutors, and Julie received the most nominations. Julie received her award from the NSF at their annual conference in Harrogate on 9 June.
Students praised Julie for her help with the challenging Accounting for Decision Making module and for her passion, patience, frankness and encouragement.
One student, Sarah Michael, said: “Nothing is ever too much trouble for Julie. She always has a smile on her face and she communicates with us as people not just as students. She put so much effort into our revision classes for the CIPFA exams and we all really appreciated it. !’m so glad she won.”
Another, Bonita Knighton, said: “Not only did she go the extra mile in getting me through ADM last summer when I was convinced I was a lost case. (I quit straight after the exam after deciding that I was not good enough to continue with my studies) she has kept in touch and now convinced me to carry on and get it finished. I have now re-enrolled and plan to finish my Diploma stage this autumn.”
Another, Gemma Deadman said: “I voted for Julie as I found her revision class to be so helpful. She has a good way of explaining things and isn’t boring in her methods. She is also a nice person, and willing to help me even though she is no longer one of my tutors this past term.”
Another, Daniel Braycotton said: “Julie is fantastic and has often gone above and beyond her duties as a tutor. She has a wonderful rapport with the students, and I just hope I have not let her down and passed ADM!”
After being told of her award, Julie said: “I am truly surprised but delighted to win this prestigious award. I would like to say thank you to the students that took the time out of preparing for their exams to nominate me for this award – I am truly honoured. I have been with the CIPFA Education and Training Centre since 2005 and I really do enjoy teaching on the CIPFA programme. I am always impressed with the hard work put in by CIPFA students. Just passing the exam is all that I have asked of my students and I have been well rewarded over the years. I am humbled and very appreciative of this award. This award also reflects the overall commitment of the CIPFA Education and Training Centre in maintaining excellence in professional education and training. I would like to thank my colleagues for their support and most of all the students I have taught over the years and more especially those that made this possible.”
