CIPFA Institute Council
The role of the Institute Council is to govern the Institute, in the public interest, within the terms of its Royal Charter.
The Institute's Council takes the key role in directing the affairs of the Institute to achieve its mission and objectives. The terms of reference of Council include:
- the public interest
- the CIPFA membership;
The Institute Council comprises the Officers of the Institute (President, Vice President, Past President and Honorary Treasurer), 21 members elected annually by the membership, plus seven nominees from the CIPFA Regions, and up to eight other members who are co-opted by the Council.
The Council and its Boards and Committees
Council has established 8 Boards and Committees, as follows:

the Council also oversees the workings of the committees set
up in accordance with the Institute's regulatory/disciplinary scheme.
Some Boards and Committees have in turn established a series of Panels, task-finish groups, and other groups to assist them discharge their own specific responsibilities.
Membership of Boards and Committees
Council members generally sit on one Board or Committee; he/she may also be
a member of other panels established by Boards and Committees.
Frequency of meetings
The Council, Boards and Committees usually meet 4 times a year, with the exception of The Board and the Commercial Services Board which both meet six times a year.
