The Journey So Far
In order to arrive at this development strategy, first published in March 2001, the Council consulted widely with its members, students and staff. It has also reviewed the increasingly rapid changes which continue to occur in the Institute's environment and attempted to predict those which are likely to be most influential in shaping the future.
Views submitted by the Institute's stakeholders continue to be particularly helpful to the Council. As well as contributing significantly to our initial work to identify key areas in which the Institute needs to develop and to establish the desirable hallmarks of the future CIPFA, they have played an important role in the adjustments and changes which are now reflected in this Updated Development Strategy. They are also responsible for conceiving many of the ideas/proposals, outlined in the action plans which form part of the strategy (see here). These provide a practical focus for making strides forward over the next few years.
Reviewing and updating the development strategy at regular intervals is an important part of the process of keeping the strategy fresh and relevant. This year we have been particularly fortunate to have the benefit of views expressed in more than 1,000 responses to a CIPFA Membership Survey. This is the second occasion on which the strategy has been formally updated and re-published. The Institute Council plans to repeat this process at annual intervals.
