CIPFA Public Health Conference
CIPFA Public Health Conference presentation slides are now available to view, and share with colleagues. The conference, on March 1st, brought together leading speakers to give insight on the radical changes brought by the new public health system, local authorities’ key role in it, and the impact on local government finances.
With an introduction from Bob Alexander, Director of Finance, NHS South of England and ending with a workshop hosted by CIPFA and the Public Health Action Support Team it delivered some insight as to what organisations need to be aware of and how they can make it work. Attendees were also able to ask specific questions and find out how their peers are dealing with the unprecedented changes.

Health expertise
CIPFA’s Health Panel influence and develop best practice in financial management and governance across the health sector in the UK. They have a broad membership including representatives from the NHS, the Department of Health, the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, and the national audit office.
The panel regularly responds to government white papers including Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS, which set out some of the most fundamental changes to the NHS that we have seen for many years.

Free guidance suite for clinical commissioning groups
CIPFA has released a free suite of four CIPFA introductory guides for those establishing clinical commissioning groups:
- Establishing clinical commissioning groups – A set up checklist
- Preparing and evaluating business cases – option appraisal
- Pooling budgets and integrated care
- An introduction to the NHS reforms and financial challenge within the NHS
We welcome suggestions for future guides and more in depth support.

We offer a portfolio of established services supporting the health sector including bespoke training and development programmes, financial management tools like the FM Model, consultancy, property services and recruitment services.
Big society support
