CIPFA in the International Arena
Internationally, CIPFA works in a number of ways to improve public financial management (PFM). Globally, we:
- award qualifications in PFM, and make those qualification frameworks available to professional accountancy organisations who wish to use them to adapt their own qualifications for the public sector in their country
- build capacity to professionalise PFM in countries where this is lacking
- help to set global standards for accounting, auditing and accountancy education, through active participation in the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the Fédération des Experts Comptables Européens (FEE)
- provide advice, guidance, training and other resources to countries transitioning to standards based forms of accounting and auditing
- lead thinking in how to understand and improve PFM, based on our unique Whole System Approach
We achieve results by working with others, including:
- governments, designing solutions to improving the performance of their PFM system
- supreme audit institutions, strengthening their capacity to hold governments to account
- national professional accountancy organisations, creating PFM qualifications to the highest international standards, and quality assuring awards
- local training bodies, strengthening their capacity to train for the public sector in a sustainable way
- consultancies and other organisations, leveraging their in‑country infrastructure to make CIPFA’s expertise available through country and global networks and improve performance.
