CIPFA International - Visuals
The benefits of CIPFA's international projects
Illustrating the benefits of our international work in the developing world is a challenge. CIPFA's International Director - Alan Edwards - took a video camera with him on a recent visit to Lesotho. He captured in an amateur way the value to the students and lecturers of CIPFA training. The videos also illustrate the impact CIPFA training has made not only on Government accounting in one of the poorest countries in the world, but perhaps as importantly on the students as individuals. Don't miss the baby CIPFA story from the 2010 prizewinner - see the videos at CIPFA International Video.
ESAAG Conference February 2011

CIPFA was well represented at the 2011 Eastern and Southern Africa Association of Accountants General Conference in Nairobi. Assistant Director Tony Redmond spoke about CIPFA's work on professionalisation. He specifically covered our work in Tanzania, Lesotho and Nigeria. He concluded that there is no one approach to professionalisation and that CIPFA was helping develop tailored solutions for individual countries.
Tony's presentation can be found here.

CIPFA Lecturer’s view
The Head of the CIPFA course was a successful business person and motivational speaker who has given it up to strengthen the accounting profession in his country. He is convinced the CIPFA course has professionalised the Government accounting service in Lesotho which illustrate the value of CIPFA training and our work in the developing world
The Lesotho Institute of Accountant’s view
The CIPFA course was set up in partnership with LIA. The Chief Executive of the LIA is pleased with the pass rates and the impact it has had on the retention of accountants in the public sector.
The Student Representative’s view
The student rep keeps the students highly motivated. He particularly likes the impact the ICT module has had on the students. He believes it has had a positive impact on the Government’s ability to implement IFMIS its new accounting system.
The Prizewinner’s view
The 2010 prizewinner is typical of the enthusiastic Lesotho students. Since winning her prize she has been promoted to Principal Accountant in the Ministry of Local Government. The effort she put into study is obvious – she had a baby girl 4 days after her final exams! All her friends and family call her daughter baby CIPFA!
A full case study about CIPFA's experience of working in Lesotho will be published in 2011.
