Applying for CIPFA Membership

CIPFA students who have successfully completed the CIPFA Professional Accountancy Qualification and Initial Professional Development Scheme (IPDS) are invited to apply for CIPFA Membership. Once membership is approved members can use the designatory letters ‘CPFA’ (Chartered Public Finance Accountant) for as long as they continue membership.

Application forms are dispatched from Membership upon confirmation from Education & Training that you are now eligible to apply.  Should this have been misplaced the form is available below for you to print. Completed forms should be sent to the Membership Operations department at CIPFA together with the appropriate application fee. A signed form is required; copies and faxes cannot be accepted.

Any students who graduated prior to June 2005 under the old PQ syllabus and wish to apply for membership should contact the Membership department on 020 7543 5665.
If you have not completed the CIPFA education and training programme, are not eligible under other routes into membership and are not a member of a mutually recognised body please visit the ‘Become a Student’ information pages at http://www.cipfa.org.uk/students/prospective/paq.cfm. Although you may not be eligible for direct membership you may be exempted from some examinations because of the qualifications you hold.

There are two further routes in membership, known as Bye-Laws 5 and 6.These are normally ‘sponsored’ by Council members or Institute Directors, are therefore people who the Institute has worked with closely within financial management and accountancy within the public services. Membership via these Bye-Laws is entirely within the gift of Council and is not given lightly. For further information please contact Barry Mather, Council Secretary on 020 7543 5669 or email barry.mather@cipfa.org.
