Decisions we make will often have long term implications. This is particularly the case with capital projects, but not exclusively so. Unfortunately too often the longer term costs and benefits of decisions are not systematically assessed, especially where short term political expediencies take precedence. Whole life costing provides a formal methodology to improve decision making by ensuring that medium and longer term implications are routinely considered.
