CIPFA and HM Treasury conference highlights importance of world class public financial management
A conference of public finance leaders, held this week by CIPFA and HM Treasury, highlighted the critical importance of world class public financial management in the current economic climate. Speaking at the conference, CIPFA chief executive Steve Freer said that finance directors can increasingly make an 'absolutely massive' difference to the success of their organisations.
Other speakers included David Walker, former US Comptroller General and subject of the Oscar-shortlisted documentary on national debt, I.O.U.S.A. David set out a sobering picture of the how US economic problems have developed and how longer-term economic stewardship is needed to avert a deepening crisis.

CIPFA students shine in latest exam results
Students working towards the public sector's leading accountancy qualification produced a strong set of results in their December 2008 exams. CIPFA’s Education & Training Director, Adrian Pulham said, "CIPFA is immensely proud of the hard-working and dedicated students who sat these exams in December. They deserve our warmest congratulations for these results". |

The adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is a major change in the UK public sector's financial reporting. CIPFA aims to help the public services get to grips with IFRS and support the sector on the journey to full adoption.
