Colm McCarthy to speak at CIPFA conference
Colm McCarthy, economist and author of the controversial report into public spending cuts in Ireland, is to speak at CIPFA annual conference. The McCarthy report recommended cuts of 8.5% through 17,000 job losses, closures and mergers of public bodies, and a raft of other measures to restore Ireland's public finances. In this keynote speech, McCarthy will draw out lessons for the UK on the Irish experience of cuts and reform. Taking place in Harrogate from 8-10 June, CIPFA conference also features speeches from Charles Kennedy and political broadcasters Nick Robinson and Cathy Newman.
