Budget 2009: CIPFA responds
Responding to the Government's Budget 2009, Ian Carruthers, CIPFA's Director of Policy and Technical said: 'What this Budget signals is that the difficult period that we all knew was inevitable for the public sector is likely to be even tougher than the orginal predictions of last autumn. The Operational Efficiency Programme measures announced yesterday will obviously be helpful but it is important that they are not regarded as easy options. The reality is that their delivery will require real skill'. Ian went on to say: 'Directors of Finance will play an absolutely critical role in helping organisations to rise to the challenges and to make the right decisions for the long term public interest'.

Operational Efficiency Programme recommends CIPFA's network Local authorities and other agencies should use CIPFA Property's Asset Management Planning Network (AMP) when coming together to share best practice. The strong recommendation was contained in the Treasury's Operational Efficiency Programme report, published in advance of this week's Budget. CIPFA Property's AMP Network currently has more than 330 member organisations.
David Bentley, Head of Asset Management at CIPFA said: 'We are delighted that the Treasury has recognised the valuable work that CIPFA's AMP Network has been doing over the last eight years. In the current economic climate it is more important than ever that local authorities and other public bodies gain the maximum benefit from thier property assets and we look forward to working with many new organisations in the future'. |
