CIPFA council tax survey forecasts lowest increase in years

Council TaxCIPFA's annual council tax survey, published today, shows an expected average council tax rise of 3% this year - the lowest annual increase in 14 years. Speaking about the figures, CIPFA Chief Executive Steve Freer said:

“Most councils have clearly given priority to limiting tax rises enabling an average tax bill increase across the country of approximately 3%, the lowest annual increase since 1994/95. However, in many cases workforce and service reductions will be necessary to balance budgets – such are the harsh realities of managing public services in this very difficult climate”.

CIPFA and Society of District Council Treasurers to launch Development Academy
CIPFA and the Society of District Council Treasurers (SDCT) are to launch a Development Academy for current and aspiring district council treasurers. Building on the success of last year's programme, the Academy will provide practical workshops on 11 March for aspiring treasurers, followed by sessions on 17 March for current practitioners. 

 

 

   

CIPFA Guidance to Scottish Local Authorities on direct payments
CIPFA in Scotland has published financial guidance on direct payments. Endorsed by Shona Robison, the Minister for Sport and Public Health, the guidance seeks to ensure that financial monitoring and record keeping is proportionate to both the service deliverer and service recipient while supporting the growth and development of direct payments.
