Public Servants of the Year Awards 2005
The 2005 Public Servants of the Year Awards will take place on
THURSDAY 21ST APRIL at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
These prestigious awards, run by Public Finance magazine in partnership
with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA),
the Cabinet Office
and the Office of Government Commerce,
seek to recognise and reward excellence and outstanding achievement
displayed by individuals and teams from Britain's 4 million public
sector workers.
Nomination forms for the 16 award categories will be available
from September.

Funding Issues – 14 September 2004 - London

The CIPFA Health Finance Conference 2005
– 7 & 8 October 2004 - York |
This course will cover the issues involved
in achieving the objectives of Agenda for Change and wider
workforce planning and reform issues throughout the NHS in
England and Wales.
It is jointly aimed at both finance and HR team members,
and colleagues from the same organisation are strongly urged
to attend together. We anticipate an audience of around 70
senior staff from a variety of NHS organisations.

This year’s Health Finance Conference revolves around
the theme of system reform. Sessions will include the healthcare
workforce of the future, developing new structures in the
NHS, patient choice and managing reputational risk in NHS
organisations. Directors of Finance within the NHS in England
and other senior finance staff are invited to attend, and
an audience of around 140 is anticipated.

The Spending Review 2004 and report on
the Balance of Funding Review – 21 September 2004 –

This day will examine the implications of the
reviews, and the likely funding options available to local government
finance staff in England when commencing their annual financial
planning process. It will be of interest to chief executives,
treasurers and directors of finance and other senior finance
staff from English local authorities and police and fire authorities.
Around 100 senior finance and resources staff are expected to
attend. |
Aimed at treasurers and finance directors, chief education officers
and education finance officers in LEAs throughout England, this
seminar will examine LEA funding formulae, the Minimum Funding
Guarantee, the Spending Review 2004 and Building Schools for
the Future. It is expected to attract 100-150 mid-level local
authority finance staff |

CIPFA in Wales Annual Public
Services Finance Conference
Please note that the dates for the CIPFA in Wales Public
Services Finance Conference are now 18 – 19 November
2004 – venue remains the same.
This two day residential event will take place at the Vale
of Glamorgan Hotel on the 18-19th November 2004. Building
on the success of previous events this conference promises
a prestigious line up of invited speakers to present issues
of national and strategic importance which impact on the Welsh
public sector scene. The conference is aimed at senior public
sector managers and decision makers and enables them to focus
on the bigger picture.
To support the event, an exhibition area has been reserved
as well as the opportunity for involvement in workshop sessions,
which will form part of the conference programme. Building
upon the success of the 2003 event the CIPFA in Wales Annual
Dinner will remain a feature of the overall event when a number
of distinguished guests will be invited to join the delegates
in celebration of another successful year.

NHS Finance: The Financing of Chronic Disease Management
– 3 November 2004 - London This event will
be of interest to finance managers, but also general managers,
HR managers and clinical managers within the NHS in England
and Wales. Topics to be covered include: defining Chronic
Disease Management; clinical perspectives; the patient’s
perspective; overseas financial models and practical examples
from the NHS (case-studies). Between 100 and 150 delegates
are expected. |
| This major new event intended for senior and mid-level central
government finance staff will be held over two days, with delegates
having the option to attend one or both days. Day one focuses
on a strategic appraisal of financial management and reporting,
looking at how this can help provide improved public services.
Day two explores the impact of the efficiency agenda on both
financial policy and practical delivery within departments,
agencies and NDPBs. Speakers include the NAO Comptroller and
Auditor General, Sir John Bourn KCB; DWP Finance Director, John
Codling; Inland Revenue Finance Director, Stephen Jones; and
David Walker from the Guardian. An audience of approximately
100 is expected to attend on each day. |
CIPFA Northern Ireland Conference 2004 |
Eliminating efficiency and reducing waste in order to provide
better public services is the focus of the 2004 CIPFA Northern
Ireland Conference entitled 'Improving Services on the Front
Line - New Beginning or False Dawn?’ The conference,
now in its thirteenth year, will be held on 30 September and
1 October in the Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle, County Down.
As always, the CIPFA conference programme provides a platform
to address topical issues affecting public services, such
as the use of Broadband technology, and the development of
common accounting services. In addition, the conference is
an occasion to learn best practices from inspirational speakers
who are prominent in their field and who come with national
and international reputations.
