Student Registrations

The year 2002 ended with 867 new registrations, a 12% increase on 2001. This is CIPFA's fourth consecutive year of 'strong sustainable growth' and the highest level of registrations for more than a decade.

Exam Results Online

Exam results for the December 2002 sitting will be available on Friday 31 January for P3 and Friday 7 February for Foundation, P1 and P2. Results will be available on the website from 8am both mornings. To access your results online, type your eight digit contact number (ignoring the first 0) and your four-digit candidate number, and indicate which level of exams you sat. A telephone hotline will be open from 9am for students without internet access.

NHS Professional Alliance

The NHS Professional Alliance are producing a book aimed at encouraging staff development. The book will include a contribution from CIPFA which is being co-ordinated by Anne Ray, Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications for Education and Training (E&T), in conjunction with Council member David Poynton. It showcases CIPFA's products and services and acts as a useful catalogue of information for potential customers. Tom Sowerby Award

Do you know someone who has improved the lot of CIPFA students? If so, why not consider nominating your mentor or colleague for the Tom Sowerby Award? The E&T Director, Ken Gill, is now welcoming applications for 2003. There is an open nomination process, but entries must be made on the official form, which can be downloaded from the website.

Pay Your Membership Subscriptions Online

Members and students may now pay their subscriptions by credit card in the online CIPFA Shop. The Shop is a member of the Which? Web Trader Scheme and BT Trustwise certified, ensuring secure

Changes to Assessment of CPD Documents

30% of active members are now registered in CIPFA’s CPD Scheme. In light of the increasing number of participants and the likely implementation of the improved scheme in 2003, changes have been made to the way CPD documents are assessed. The Role of the Finance Director in
Local Government - Revised Statement

A new Statement on the role of the finance director has been developed by a CIPFA working group comprising representatives from across the UK and in conjunction with the Treasurers' Societies. The revised statement can be downloaded from the website.

CIPFA in Wales Forum

Following a period of consultation, the constitution has now been finalised for approval at the inaugural annual general meeting of the Forum in May. Nominations for election will be sought in early February. Further details regarding the Forum and arrangements for the AGM will be available via /wales together with news on other events and activities within Wales.


CIPFA Placements Move into Healthcare

CIPFA Placements already provide experienced and reliable interim managers to many local authorities and are now building a successful track record in healthcare organisations.

Developing a Streamlined Process for
Closing Down your Annual Accounts

The Accounts and Audit Regulations for 2003 propose a significant tightening of the timetable for closing down accounts in future financial years. The IPF Finance Advisory Network (FAN) will be offering
a topical series of workshops this month to provide
a foundation for the further streamlining of the closure process, enhancing any work completed or already underway within local authorities.

Preparing for the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)

From 2004 onwards, all service providers will have to make reasonable adjustments to their premises to overcome physical barriers to access. To facilitate the adjustment process, the IPF Access Consultancy is running a series of DDA seminars on service provision throughout the UK this year.
