Visit the Knowledge Base

Ok, it’s summer, maybe you’re thinking of putting the OLM away for a week or two. So why not do something different, and add a new dimension to your studies - Visit the knowledge base

Students who sign up for the CIPFA Learning Centre (CLC) website, have access to the Knowledge Base, a comprehensive, online library of technical and management material, perfect for augmenting your learning. It's completely free and all students can join.

From NHS management and financial reports, local authority procurement, regulatory frameworks and how to avoid purchasing scams, the information is up to date, relevant and easy to access.

Using the CIPFA Statement of Expertise (SoE) and bespoke management and leadership materials, the Knowledge Base has all the answers. Whatever your sector and whatever the subject, you can find technical, accounting and financial, and management and leadership information and activities designed by and for financial professionals.

If there are gaps in your knowledge, go to the CLC, it’s the best place to look.

Congratulations at Audit Scotland

Anne Cairns, winner of two Audit Scotland FTPC prizesCongratulations go out to Anne Cairns and Colin Harvey, winners of the Audit Scotland FTPC prizes.

Anne was awarded the DR Bishop Prize for Best Overall student in Scotland and the Audit Scotland Prize for Best Student in Public Sector Audit. Colin won the A Gillespie Prize for Best Student in Local Government.



CETC’s IPDS Essential Skills Course in July and August

Wondering how best to start with the IPDS? Need some advice and guidance? CETC is offering its hugely popular IPDS Essential Skills course in both its London and Birmingham locations over the summer.

The 1-day course, ideal for all CIPFA students but particularly new or certificate level students, will cover:

  • The requirements of the IPDS scheme
  • A look at each of the elements of the IPDS with hints and advice
  • Techniques required to successfully complete the Experience Log
  • Tips on how to write reflectively and an opportunity to practice
  • The requirements of the IPDS portfolio and what happens after submission
  • The pitfalls and how to avoid them

The London course will be held at CETC South East on Tuesday 31 July and the Birmingham at CETC Midlands on Thursday 2 August.

Key Dates

Many of you will have just sat your FTPC exams and may be submitting your portfolios shortly. If you have entered for this IPDS session (entry form deadline was 15 June) then make sure your portfolio you get your portfolio to us by 27 July.

If you haven’t sent in an IPDS entry form for the September interviews, don’t worry, you’ll have another chance before the end of the year, just get your IPDS entry form to us by 31 August. The key dates in relation to IPDS for 2007 can be found at www.cipfa.org.uk/students/current/ipds_keydates.cfm.

You may not want to think about it just yet, but if you do need to get the December exam dates in your diary, they can be found here.

CIPFA works in partnership with training centres and universities throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland, bringing you the highest quality taught courses to complement your studies. Available in both day release and weekly block release formats, these courses typically involve about 7 to 8 days’ attendance at one of our participating colleges for each module.

Exam Information

Exam Results
You will be able to access your results on 27 July 2007, at www.cipfa.org.uk/students/current/results.cfm. You will need your student contact number and exam candidate number.

Please note that we do not give out results by phone.

Entering for exams
Once you have received your results you need to consider which exams to sit in December 2007 and then enter for these.

Exam entry is now done solely online.

The December exam entry form will be available from 27 July at: http://learning.cipfa.org.uk/paqexamentry.

The exam entry deadline for December is 28 September 2007. It is your responsibility to enter for exams and ensure payment is with us as soon as possible.

Once the online form has been completed, a remittance advice slip will be sent to you by email advising that payment is due within 7 working days. We understand that this timescale is not always achievable for organisations, so if there is likely to be a delay, the contact CIPFA immediately, advising us when we can expect payment.

The latest date for receipt of payment is 12th October 2007
If we have not received payment, we will send out reminders. Candidates will not have their exam entry withdrawn without notification.

If, for any reason, you decide not sit an exam for which you have entered, you must let us know, even if you have not sent in payment.

The timetable for the December exams can be found at www.cipfa.org.uk/students/current/keydates.cfm. Students must have purchased the relevant open learning material (OLM) for any module they wish to sit.

OLM purchase forms can be downloaded at www.cipfa.org.uk/students/current/olm_forms.cfm.

Re-sitting exams
Students re-sitting exams must enter for these, using the online entry form (above).
