Many of you will have just sat your FTPC exams and may be submitting your portfolios shortly. If you haven’t sent in an IPDS entry form for the September interviews, don’t worry, you’ll have another chance before the end of the year, just get your IPDS entry form to us by 31 August. The key dates in relation to IPDS for 2007 can be found at www.cipfa.org.uk/students/current/ipds_keydates.cfm.
If you are submitting an IPDS portfolio for the September session, we have extended the deadline for receipt of portfolios from 27 July to 2 August, to allow for delays caused by the postal strike.
Those of you at the earlier stages of the qualification need to be thinking about portfolio building (and you should already be filling in your log of workplace experience). There are a number of online resources available to help you compile your portfolio: www.cipfa.org.uk/students/current/ipds_Guide.cfm
CIPFA offers IPDS workshops for students and also for employers, subject to demand. The NSF and Regional Societies also put on IPDS events, so check the website for information on forthcoming events.

From Wednesday 1 August you will be able to enter for the December 2007 exams online at http://learning.cipfa.org.uk/paqexamentry/. Please ensure that you register your intent to sit for the December 2007 exams as soon as possible. If you think there may be a delay in getting the exam entry fee to us within 7 days, please email ETIS or call the Customer Services Team on 0207 543 5678.

You should have received information on start dates for added value courses around the country. If you haven’t seen the flyer, you can download it here.
The flyer also includes information on revision courses and workshops. These are open to all students and will be of particular benefit to open learning only students. The feedback we get from students attending these is very positive, so why not try one! If you have already, you might consider recommending them to other students, via the discussion forum.
Please note that the booking form in the flyer is for CIPFA workshops only. For all other courses, please contact the provider directly for further information.

CETC has added more information on the support and help they can provide open learning students to its website. This includes information on sitting mock exams, attending revision courses, purchasing course materials, and arranging tutorials. The webpage lists the various options and the prices for each.
Gary Gilbert, Head of CETC, says: “For any CIPFA students unable to attend one of CETC’s main day/block release courses these options provide additional support to help them in preparing for the exams that enhances the OLM and can be seen as being in addition to the CIPFA workshops. The list of CETC services, which can be seen on the website, is there to provide a flexible approach for students allowing them to ‘pick and mix’ and tailor the support according to their requirements.”
The webpage can be seen here
If you’d like to find out more about CETC’s courses or services then email or call Julia Knight on 020 7403 4300.

The NSF Conference this year was a great success, with almost 130 students attending. A rundown of the day can be found in August’s Spreadsheet, with highlights including Karren Brady recounting how she transformed the fortunes of Birmingham City F.C.
Adrian Pulham unveiled his plans for the expansion of online student support. You will be hearing a lot more about the student learning centre over the next few months, as it is tested with students and the details are finalised. We are keen to have your views on the proposals as they become available and also on any experiences you have had with e-learning. Please make use of the discussion forum or you can email your comments to rebecca.bazeley@cipfa.org.

Are you are in the North West North Wales Region and think you could offer some support to colleagues in your Region? The NWNW Student Forum is keen to recruit more volunteers to the forum and to help organise events. Volunteering is a great way to meet other students, gain new skills and knowledge and have some fun. Email the NWNW Student Forum for more information.
Other Regions also often need volunteers. Contacts for your Region can found by following the links from Regions’ Home Page.

CETC Lecturer Kim Woods is the recipient of this year’s National Student Forum (NSF) Excellence in Education award. The award is presented annually by the NSF and is designed to recognise the CIPFA lecturer who is dedicated, committed and has gone the extra mile for their students. CIPFA students can nominate any lecturer from any of the accredited CIPFA course providers that they believe deserves the award.
The award was presented at the 2007 NSF conference on Thursday 5th July with Gary Gilbert, Head of CETC, collecting the award on Kim’s behalf. On accepting the award, Gary said: "Kim has such a caring and committed approach to students that it is no surprise to me that she has won this award. We're very pleased at CETC that this is the second year running that a CETC lecturer has won this award although we do admit that we have an advantage as CIPFA students have a greater exposure to our lecturers who teach across the UK at our locations in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Leeds. On behalf of everyone at CETC I'd like to congratulate Kim on her win."
Kim joined CETC in March 2005 having taught CIMA and AAT courses at a further education college in Surrey since February 2000. Kim teaches Certificate level modules for the Professional Accountancy Qualification (Financial Accounting and Financial Reporting) and Taxation for the Diploma level.
