Diploma in Public Audit (DPA) & Advanced Diploma in Public Audit (ADPA)

The CIPFA Diploma in Public Audit is the only professional audit qualification focused on the distinct skills and practices of auditors in the public sector. It is awarded by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), the world's leading public sector accountancy body.

WHAT IS THE DPA?

The DPA qualification will equip you with an understanding of both the practical skills required in a modern audit service and the professional framework in which they are applied. It is a one year qualification, which follows a progressive learning structure from a starting point which assumes no previous knowledge or experience, introducing new concepts and proficiencies as the course progresses.


WHO IS THE DPA FOR?

The DPA is for those involved in internal audit of the public sector. The CIPFA DPA is directly relevant to those new to auditing as well as more experienced auditors seeking to formalise their knowledge.


WHAT IS INVOLVED AT LEVEL 1?

Level 1 concentrates on providing a comprehensive introduction to the key competencies, both knowledge and skills based, required by a practising auditor. Subject areas include:

  • Audit in Context
  • Core Audit Skills
  • Financial Accounting Systems

WHAT IS INVOLVED AT LEVEL 2?

Level 2 draws on the knowledge and understanding gained at Level 1 and develops further competencies expected for a more capable and experienced auditor, with increased focus on audit management skills. Subject areas include:

  • Managing the Audit Cycle
  • Innovation and Assurance
  • Financial Reporting
  • Management Theory and Practice

WHAT IS THE ADPA?

The CIPFA ADPA will allow practicing auditors to complete a pathway of study to enable them to complete the more onerouse tasks required at management level.

WHO IS THE ADPA FOR?

The ADPA is relevant to all those who have successfully completed the DPA or candidates who have previously completed the Institute or Internal Auditor's PIIA qualification may gain entry.


WHAT IS THE ADPA COURSE INVOLVE?

The ADPA is the next stage up from the DPA and focuses more on the management side of auditing. The modules covered at this level include:

  • Government, Regulation and Ethics
  • Advanced Audit Techniques
  • Strategy
  • IT and IT Audit
