Delivering Good Governance in Local Government – Interim Guidance Note for Police Authorities and Forces in England and Wales
![]() |
In June, CIPFA in association with SOLACE published Delivering Good Governance in Local Government : The Framework. The Framework document is intended to be followed as best practice for developing and maintaining a local code of governance and for discharging accountability for the proper conduct of public business, through the publication of an annual governance statement that will make the adopted practice open and explicit.
In order to assist police authorities and forces in England and Wales in meeting these requirements and developing and strengthening their governance arrangements, CIPFA in association with the APA and ACPO has developed interim guidance. The guidance note is intended to help authorities, assisted by their forces where appropriate, in reviewing the effectiveness of their own governance arrangements, developing and updating their own local codes of governance and demonstrating compliance with the principles of good governance.
A number of areas and documents relating to the guidance are still under consideration or development. Once the position on these is clearer, the interim guidance will be reviewed with the final document likely to be published next Summer.
The interim guidance note is available for free download: PDF [size: 793KB].
