CIPFA/LASAAC Seeking New Chair

Could you guide the development of local authority financial reporting into the IFRS era?

With decisions taken on the timetable for completing the transition to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and new governance arrangements, the CIPFA/LASAAC Local Authority SORP Board is seeking a new chair.

CIPFA/LASAAC is a joint committee of CIPFA and the Local Authority (Scotland) Accounts Advisory Committee and is responsible for updating the Code of Practice on Local Authority accounting in the United Kingdom (currently a SORP) each year. The Code for 2010/11 will be the first to be entirely based on IFRS, and the significant programme of work required to produce the new document has now started. The Board typically meets four times a year, but may meet more often over the coming year or so.

Expressions of interest are invited from current Directors of Finance, other experienced senior local government finance practitioners, and others with current experience at a senior level of local authority financial reporting.

The position will be on a fixed term of three years and is renewable.

To discuss the role, please contact Ian Carruthers (telephone 020 7543 5677, email ian.carruthers@cipfa.org) or Colin Stratton (telephone 020 7543 5686, email colin.stratton@cipfa.org).

If you would like to be considered, please provide a brief CV, together with a summary of how you would contribute to the role and your plans for progressing the work of the Board.

Please send these to Julian Smith, Policy Support Officer, CIPFA, 3 Robert Street, London, WC2N 6RL, or email julian.smith@cipfa.org by 4 August 2008.
