Professional Conduct

Governance in the public services is a broad topic. It is about how public service bodies ensure that they are doing the right things, in the right way, for the right people, in a timely, inclusive, open, honest and accountable manner. Governance embraces every type of organisation from schools and voluntary groups to major government departments. Good governance is important because it is at the heart of delivering high quality public services. Today, the public rightly expects high standards from those who govern both in terms of conduct and outcomes.

CIPFA has created these web pages to link together the work undertaken across the UK within the CIPFA group and with its partners. Governance work is undertaken:

  • By the Corporate Governance Panel within CIPFA’s Policy and Technical Directorate
  • By CIPFA in Northern Ireland
  • By CIPFA in Scotland
  • Within the CIPFA regions
  • Within the cipfanetworks.net by The Better Governance Forum
  • In partnership with the Audit Commission, Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) and the Leadership Centre for Local Government through the Improvement Network
  • By the Public Money and Policy Association.
