The Northern Ireland Executive was set to hold its first meeting for five months on November 20 after a long-running dispute over responsibility for policing and justice was resolved. The Democratic Unionists and Sinn Féin agreed to allow the full Assembly to appoint a new minister for the portfolio.

The number of people emigrating from the UK fell during 2007, according to November 19 figures from the Office for National Statistics. An estimated 340,000 people left, down from 400,000 in 2006. Net immigration rose by 46,000 on 2006.
