About Us

Grand Place BrusselsThe CIPFA European Group was established some ten years ago to represent the professional interests of CIPFA members living and working in Europe. The European Group consists of around 71 members. It is not the smallest region, but with members in 15 countries (from Denmark to Gibraltar) it is by far the most dispersed.

The Executive Committee, reflecting on the limited size of its membership and their spread throughout Europe, wish to thank CIPFA for this new opportunity to communicate with its members. The Committee likewise recognise that by opening a dialogue with its members via the Internet, the CIPFA European Group can begin to function in the manner it was intended.

The Executive Committee hopes that this website will offer to its members an opportunity to bring forward, discuss and resolve issues that concern them both generally and specifically.

Membership

A significant proportion of CIPFA Members in Europe are on career break. Those on career break in Brussels have attempted to organise independently, with members of other professional Institutes, a range of activities that will keep them up to date with professional developments and aid their Continuing Professional Development.

The European Group encourage initiatives for all career break members in Europe and, by creating a positive exchange of ideas and support links with CIPFA in London, ensure that an appropriate service is provided to support these Members whether they are absent from the UK for 6 months or 6 years. About 20% of members are on retirement. The Executive Committee would welcome, as with those on Career Break, a representative to facilitate on the Internet an exchange of views and opinions of concern to retired members in Europe.

Leslie MilneOf the members working in Europe, most work on a permanent or temporary basis for one of the European Institutions in Brussels or Luxembourg. Others work in the private sector in a wide range of countries.

Any member who would like to assist with the development of their website, or is interested in becoming a member of the Executive Committee should contact mailto:leslie.milne@ec.europa.eu (pictured left).
