The CIPFA Learning Centre website
With nearly 7000 registered users, the CIPFA Learning Centre website is an indispensable tool for keeping your work based learning up to date. It?s the easiest and quickest way to manage your CPD, keep your CIPFA details current and find the right learning material to help you with your professional development.
No website is perfect, so we asked our users what they wanted from the site and got some fantastic pointers as to where we needed to develop.
The main areas of interest to the users were the site?s usability and the learning material contained on the site. The majority of the people who responded were happy with how the site worked and how it could help them manage their CPD. However, there was a general feeling amongst users that it could be easier to use.
Comments from users highlighted the issues some members were having planning and recording their CPD online, which some found could be quite confusing. We looked at how we could make the site more user friendly. We have managed to simplify the process and make it easier for users to find their way around and complete tasks.
But we didn?t stop there. We?re going through the site with a fine tooth comb to really improve the user experience. We?ve simplified the criteria people can use to search to make it more in tune with how people want to search. We?re currently finding the best way for people to find specific information through the search, including time sensitive material, such as course dates and locations.
One very simple change has greatly improved access for registered users to the secure area of the site. We?ve taken the log in page and moved it to the homepage so people can log in straight away without thinking about it. If you?re looking around the site before you log in, you can still get to the old log in page from the usual top navigation link.
We?ve also improved the top navigation with the links that get used most frequently. The Learning Centre is packed full of really useful and important information, so anything we can do to point people in the right direction will help improve the experience. Check out the CLC Quick Guide, an indispensable guide to getting to grips with the basics.
Sharing your CPD plans with colleagues can give you some great ideas and give you a deeper understanding on the best way to approach CPD for you. The improved ?Share My CPD? section makes it easier to invite people to look at your plans. Just one click and it?s done.
Feedback we?ve had since we started modifying the site has been positive and we?re not stopping now. We?re going to carry on refining and improving the site to make it as useful as possible to our members and students, to make completing your CPD as simple as possible and to add real benefit to being a CIPFA member.
