About the Midlands Region
The Midlands Region covers a very large geographical area; stretching from the Welsh coast to Lincolnshire, and from the Yorkshire border in the North to the Wiltshire border in the South. The Regional President is Lisa Commane (pictured right).
The Region supports 2,450 members (including graduates and 560 retired members). We have an active Regional Council, a varied programme of events and seminars across the Region, and a Students Society.

Organisation of the Region
The Region's affairs are managed by the Regional Council, which has directly elected members and representatives from associated groups. Below the Regional Council are four geographical Area Executives, whose main role is to arrange events for members locally and to represent their interests. There is a Students' Society which also reports to, and is represented on, the Regional Council.
There are a number of associated groups, such as the December Club for retired members and the Audit Group.
The Region promotes links with related professional bodies, such as the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and other Accountancy Institutes. We are a member of the Professional Institute West Midlands (PINWM), which aims to promote networking between professionals, CPD Events with key speakers and raise the profile of the member Institutes.
We communicate with our members and students in a range of different ways - including our Regional newsletter Centrepage, e-mail notification of events, the Annual Report, local and regional meetings and this website.
Strategic Direction
Lisa's key priorities for the Regional Council during her Presidency (2011 - 2013) are:
- To ensure that the work of CIPFA in the Midlands responds to the diversity and pan public sector agendas;
- Continuing to add value to Members, including the development of thought leadership and improved engagement with finance leaders; and
- Ensuring a succession strategy for CIPFA in the Midlands to maintain a vibrant student and membership network into the future.
Development and Strategic Plans, Annual Reports and Accounts and the Constitution
The Region produces a Strategic Plan / Development Plan before the start of each year, and an Annual Report to review the progress achieved during the year, which can be downloaded from the Table below.

The Region has a Constitution to govern its proceedings. The document includes the formal Constitution, the Financial Regulations, the Roles and Responsibilities of Officers and the Working Principles of CIM.
Annual General Meetings
The Region holds its AGM during March or April. The new Council and Officers are elected, reports received, and any topical business considered. The meeting is usually addressed by the National President. Certificates are then presented to newly-qualified Members in the Midlands.
The 2011 Regional AGM held at the Ricoh Stadium on 10th March 2011 received the report of the outgoing President Steve Wellings, the annual accounts for 2010, the 2011 budget and the Strategic Plan. The new Regional President, Lisa Commane was welcomed, together with the new Vice-President, Sean Pearce.
The AGM was followed by a Professional Development Event, led by Anne McFadyen and Jon Moon, and the event closed with a national Presidential address and presentation of certificates and medals to newly qualified members.
