At the AGM in June 2003 members voted in favour of the introduction of mandatory participation in the CPD scheme with effect from January 2005.
Implementation of mandatory CPD is being phased in over a three-year basis, which began in January 2005 and is based upon the individual's date of election to the Institute:
| Phase 1 January 2005 | Members elected in or after January 1994 |
| Phase 2 January 2006 | Members elected between January 1984 and December 1993 |
| Phase 3 January 2007 | Members elected before January 1984 |
A new improved CPD scheme has been developed to coincide with these developments. It draws extensively on member feedback and national and international research regarding best practice.
CIPFA has also developed the CIPFA Learning Centre (CLC) a leading edge tool to enable members to:
o Access guidance about the CPD scheme;
o Plan, manage and record CPD participation;
o Develop technical and management knowledge and skills
o Share CPD Plans with a CPD buddy
Access to certain parts of the CIPFA Learning Centre is restricted to members only where any information stored is password protected.

CPD in our region
The Society supports members in their CPD through the following::-
a. Provision of a range of events, the majority of which can count towards your CPD.
b. Provsion of a CPD Adviser who can offer advice and support from a practitioner's point of view. The Regional CPD Adviser is Stepehn Rowley at Wirral MBC and he can be contacted at StephenRowley@wirral.gov.uk
Volunteering
CIPFA's regions rely on the volunteer support of its members. If you would like to volunteer your services within your Region or if you are already a volunteer this may count towards your CPD. To find out more please visit www.cipfa.org.uk/volunteers.
The Society also seeks to make members aware of other CPD support available - for example the new CIPFA Learning Centre and employer accreditation, which are outlined below.
The CIPFA Learning Centre (CLC) was launched in June 2005 at the CIPFA Conference in Manchester. The CLC is an additional service to support CIPFA members in their Continuing Professional Development, as mandatory participation in the CPD scheme is phased in. It is an excellent resource, and it is well worth taking a look. It enables members to:
Access guidance about the CPD scheme
The CLC is also the place to go for information about the CPD scheme.
