The course will explain the principles of financial management and basic accounting techniques, and give an overview of financial transactions from initial entry to final accounts.

Finance for Non Finance Managers

A practical but simplified one-day course aimed at public sector budget managers in Scotland who have had no formal finance training. The course provides a basic level of knowledge on the background to public sector funding and a practical consideration of public sector case studies to enable delegates take an active role in financial management in their organisation.

An introduction to HE and FE finance, including an overview of the main sources of funding, governance frameworks and key risk management issues.

This course will provide an overview of Scottish local authority accounting by looking at the applicable accounting requirements, common accounting themes, fixed asset accounting and other aspects of local authority accounting.

 

Introduction to Local Government Finance

This course will provide an overview of local government finance by explaining how funding is received, legislative requirements and the terminology associated with revenue and expenditure.

 

Introduction to NHS Finance

A one day training course giving an overview of finance for non finance staff working in the NHS. It is of particular relevance to those managing budgets. Course participants will be given the opportunity to practise using case studies, especially in the afternoon session, which is mainly designed to give practical experience in preparing and interpreting budgets and budget statements.

 

Open Book Accounting

This programme examines closely public sector budgeting and specifically looks to explore just how useful Zero Based Budgeting techniques can be as opposed to more traditional and less challenging budget-setting techniques. This course is a must for all public sector managers with a budget-holding responsibility; those recently promoted into posts with budget-holding responsibilities; strategic and business planners.

 

Finance For Social Work Managers

This is one day training course for Social Work service managers and staff who are not otherwise financially qualified but have responsibility for, or an interest in, financial management. 

The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of finance and financial terminology in local government and social services, to enable an active role to be taken in financial management.

 

Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance

This course will provide a basic knowledge of local authority housing finance including an overview of legislation, general terminology and current issues.
