Training for the elected members
CIPFA Scotland have developed current and very useful training courses for the elected members of the board. These training courses will help elected members to develop their skills in questioning techniques and to improve the way they scrutinise cabinet proposals.
With more transparency in councils and parliament brought in by new government, elected members are now facing more challenges as their roles of council parents, auditors and scrutinisers.
At CIPFA Scotland we are committed to provide best possible training and advisory services to the elected members in order to help them to get equipped with required skills, knowledge and tools and techniques to undertake their responsibilities as an elected member.

Advice to elected members
The statutory guidance issued by the secretary of state under the Local Government Act 2000 (England and Wales) advises that local authorities will need to ensure that the CFO and the monitoring officer have access as necessary to meetings and papers, and that members must consult with the CFO regularly.
