Capital Procurement

This course aims to provide delegates with an understanding of the role of Procurement at all stages of Asset Management from Strategic Planning and Review through to Asset Disposal and Decommissioning. Delegates will also gain an understanding of the activities specifically relevant to Capital Procurement and Contract Management.

Introduction to Local Authority Capital Planning

Asset management is inherently multi-disciplinary and there are critical issues of co-ordination, integration and leadership at corporate level. This course is designed to help operational managers understand their financial responsibilities in their pursuit of delivering on the government's investment plans.

Economic Appraisal - Making the Right Choices

This practical workshop provides delegates with practical guidance on option appraisal using 'Green Book' (HM Treasury) guidance and the business case as a management tool. These two key processes ensure that a project is clearly justified, both in financial and non-financial terms, and that the resulting benefits are accurately measured.

Whole Life Costing

When we make decisions, such decisions will often have long term implications. This is particularly the case with capital projects, but not exclusively so. Unfortunately all too often the longer term costs and benefits of decisions are not fully taken into account, especially where short term political expediencies take precedence. There is clearly a need to highlight the benefits of taking a longer term view by incorporating whole life considerations into our decision making processes.

Introduction to Asset Management

Starting from basic principles, this event will outline what is meant by the term Asset Management, and its origins and development through the UK public sector.

Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance

This course will provide a basic knowledge of local authority housing finance including an overview of legislation, general terminology and current issues.

Contract Management

As the public sector spending squeeze starts to bite, and the trend towards greater reliance on external providers (private companies, CSOs or mutuals) to deliver public services gathers pace, organisations need to place added emphasis on contract management to help drive out costs while ensuring front line services are maintained.
