Student Charter
Students can expect CIPFA to provide and maintain a high quality, relevant and practical qualification by:
- Undertaking a regular review of all aspects of the Education and Training Scheme, including the syllabus, and taking into account wider developments in further/higher education and the public services, to ensure that the scheme meets current and future professional requirements.
- Monitoring standards of education delivery by CIPFA-approved colleges and universities to ensure that students are adequately supported and the high standard of the CIPFA qualification is maintained.
- Maintaining the standard of entry onto the scheme, including an appropriate exemption policy.
- Ensuring the efficient administration of the Education and Training Scheme and regularly reviewing its operation.
- Maintaining effective quality controls in the setting, administration and marking of examination papers.
- Regularly reviewing students' and employers' needs in the current employment marketplace.
Students can also expect CIPFA to provide an appropriate range and standard of services for the duration of their studies by:
- Monitoring the standard of the services provided to students by CIPFA, taking into account student needs and developing and improving the services provided whenever necessary.
- Providing a Student Support function to deal with all student queries in a prompt and professional manner.
- Ensuring that all queries are responded to in an appropriate manner and that confidentiality is maintained, where required, at all times.
- Having in place registration, exemption and examination policies and procedures which are uncomplicated, transparent and informative.
- Informing students in a timely manner of key dates and deadlines.
- Providing advice and appropriate action on deferrals and suspensions to periods of studentship.
- Through the CIPFA regions, where sufficient student support exists, running student-focused events.
- Treating all applications fairly and equally in accordance with CIPFA's equal opportunities policy.
- Responding promptly and fairly to any formal complaint and taking appropriate remedial action.
CIPFA can expect its students to support the objectives of the Institute and act as its ambassador in word and action by:
- Supporting the objectives of the Institute and act as its ambassador in word and action and to act in a professional manner at all times.
- Providing constructive feedback, including the completion of student questionnaires on matters of service and college provision.
- Completing all forms including registration, exam registration accurately and in accordance with published closing dates and provide all requested information and documentation.
- Becoming familiar with the CIPFA exemption policy and syllabus before applying for exemptions and to provide the appropriate information where requested.
- Reading and becoming familiar with all CIPFA student publications and information sources.
- Become familiar with CIPFA's policy regarding extensions to assessment deadlines and appeals before applying for these and to provide the appropriate documentation.
- Become familiar with all published key dates and deadlines and comply with them.
- Pay student subscription fees within the allowed time limit.
- Inform CIPFA of any change in address, employer or work practices at the earliest opportunity.
- Inform CIPFA promptly if any documentation is not received by the expected date.
- Inform CIPFA, at the first opportunity, of any extenuating circumstances that may affect attendance or achievement during the assessment period.
- Complete the workplace training logbook in accordance with agreed procedures.
- Attend and support regional student events whenever possible.
Upon successful completion of their studies, CIPFA can expect its newly qualified members to maintain and develop professional competence both for themselves and those they supervise, by:
- Being elected to membership at the next available opportunity
- Becoming involved in the Institute's activities.
- Fully participating in CIPFA's Continuing Professional Development scheme.
