PrintIPDS Guide - Log of Workplace Experience
The log of workplace experience is designed to help you focus on your training and development needs and ideally should be undertaken throughout your programme of study. However, relevant workplace experience from up to 10 years prior to submission of the portfolio will be accepted.
You should record your workplace experience on the log of 400 days workplace experience provided and include it in your portfolio.
On this log you will record:
- The date each piece of workplace experience was started and finished
- A description of the piece of workplace experience
- The area of expertise it is linked to (see below)
- A short sentence or two on what has been learned and how it may be used in the future
- The number of days you spent on the piece of work
All the tasks that you include in this log must be linked to the broad areas of the Statement of Expertise.
You are not required to provide evidence for the log of 400 days workplace experience, only the employer’s initials.
CIPFA strongly recommends that you aim to achieve as wide a range of workplace experiences as possible during your period of training. |
You must spend at least 20 days each in 4 out of the 8 areas of expertise.
When the assessor receives your portfolio he/she will assess all sections as follows:
- Have you completed all 400 days of professional development as required?
- Have these been recorded in line with the guidance given on compiling the log of workplace experience?
- Have they been validated by your manager or training officer?
