The Tom Sowerby Award is presented each year for outstanding service to CIPFA students. It was established by Tom Sowerby, president of CIPFA from 1973 to 1974. The Award can be for an individual or a group.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE TOM SOWERBY AWARD?

Anyone who has given service to CIPFA students! In practice, this means that candidates are usually CIPFA members, but you don’t have to be a CIPFA member to receive the award.

HOW IS THE WINNER CHOSEN?

Nominations must be made on the official nomination form (Word 39KB), which should clearly indicate how the nominee has met or meets the criteria of the award. The nomination forms go to a panel of CIPFA members and students, who choose the winner from the names sent in.  Results are solely based on the content of a full and detailed nomination form.

WHAT PRIZE DOES THE WINNER RECEIVE?

The Tom Sowerby Award is a high honour.  The winner is invited as a guest to the National Student Forum (NSF) Annual Conference, which in 2008 will be held at Manchester Town Hall.  The presentation of the award trophy by the President takes place during the conference on 3 July 2008.  The winner keeps the Tom Sowerby Award trophy for a year and then receives a commemorative silver salver.
