WHAT IS THE TOM SOWERBY AWARD?
The Tom Sowerby Award is presented each year for outstanding service to CIPFA students. It was established by Tom Sowerby, president of CIPFA from 1973 to 1974.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE TOM SOWERBY AWARD?
Anyone who has given service to CIPFA students! In practice, this means that candidates are usually CIPFA members, but you don’t have to be a CIPFA member to receive the award.
HOW IS THE WINNER CHOSEN?
Nominations must be made on the official nomination form, which should clearly indicate how the nominee has met or meets the criteria of the award. The nomination form can be found on the CIPFA website at http://www.cipfa.org.uk/sowerby along with an EXAMPLE version. The nomination forms go to a judging panel of CIPFA members and student bodies, who choose the winner from the names sent in. Results are solely based on the content of a full and detailed nomination form.
WHAT PRIZE DOES THE WINNER RECEIVE?
The Tom Sowerby Award is a high honour. The winner is invited as a guest to the National Student Forum (NSF) Annual Conference, which in June 2009 will be held as part of the CIPFA Annual Conference in Manchester and will be presented by the President. The winner keeps the Tom Sowerby Award trophy for a year and then receives a commemorative salver.
