Trainee Vacancies

Audit Commission

Are you looking to study for a Professional qualification?
We are looking to recruit graduate Trainee Auditors who have an eagerness to learn, committed to personal development, and enjoy working as part of a team. You will be able to exercise sound judgement of when to make a decision and when to ask for help.

You will be eligible to work in the UK and have gained 5 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C or above in English and Maths, and a minimum of 240 UCAS points or equivalent. You should also have achieved or be expecting to achieve a minimum 2:2 degree level qualification in any academic discipline.

Our graduate programme has been carefully designed to offer you something very different (we have approx. 60 Trainee auditor places to offer this year, throughout England). You’ll enjoy a well thought out mix of study (working toward your CIPFA qualification) and on-the-job practical work on site, often working closely with a varied mix of clients – from Finance Directors and GPs to Education Officers and Housing Managers. One day you might find yourself in the library on study leave, the next you could be carrying out live audit work at the local council office or police department, investigating real issues and recommending real solutions. No two days the same? Lots of people say it. We mean it. If your mission is to set your sights high and we’ll help you every step of the way.

Structure and Support
We make sure you’re an integral part of the team from day one, so there’ll be none of that ‘third wheel’ feeling you can get when you’re the newest kid on the block. You’ll enjoy a supportive environment and an individually structured programme as you work towards your exams, as well as generous financial support, abundant study time and regular mentoring.

Professional Qualification
A comprehensive four-year training programme, where trainees undertake professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), combined with in-house training, including basic audit skills.

Career Development
At the Audit Commission, we are advocates of lifelong learning and ambition to do better, which is why we view your training and development as an ongoing process, whatever stage you’re at in your career. You’ll be allocated ten training days each year (in addition to your CIPFA qualification study) to gain more professional qualifications to suit your aspirations. And because we are a large organisation, enjoying a wide breadth of work, your promotion and diversification prospects will be second to none.

Benefits
In addition to performance-related pay, 27.5 days’ holiday, an impressive contributory final salary pension scheme and various flexible benefits; Discounted Life and Personal Insurances and Private Healthcare discounts to name but a few, you’ll also receive a starting salary of £21,867 in all areas apart from London and Home Counties. London area receives £28,999 (base salary plus an extra £5,632 London weighting allowance and £1,500 training supplement). Home Counties areas receive £25,789 (base salary plus £3,422 Roseland allowance and £500 training supplement).
