“Since I took on a volunteer role the personal rewards have been enormous. I have learnt a valuable new skill and been welcomed by regional council members.”

Practitioner Groups
Many of CIPFA's voluntary activities are an excellent opportunity to share best practice with your peers. These groups capitalise on the skills and knowledge of practitioners to ensure that an important practical perspective enhances the guidance issued and services offered by CIPFA.
TISonline editorial boards
CIPFA's TISonline service has thrived on the 'by practitioners, for practitioners' ethos for over 35 years, enabling the service to build into an unrivalled source of reference and information on all aspects of financial management and administration in the public service. The online service is made up of over 30 information streams spanning the full range of functions and services provided by public service organisations. Most of these streams are produced by editorial boards of volunteer practitioners who ensure that the content remains up to date.

A word from one of our volunteers...
I look forward to going to the meetings to share new ideas and meet different leisure professionals from all over the country. I have made some excellent contacts who are always on the end of a phone to answer any professional query that I may have. It has kept me up to date with many current issues and certainly broadened my knowledge base. As well as being rewarding in itself, it has also helped me to develop both personally and professionally.
Robert Crabb
(Current member of TIS Leisure and Cultural Services editorial board and also served on SIS Leisure Statistics working party)
Statistical Information Service
CIPFA's Statistical Information Service (SIS) has built its authoritative reputation on the input of its volunteers into developing its detailed annual surveys of local authority operations to meet the needs of service managers and ensuring that they maintain their relevance and usefulness. The surveys, of which there are 35 currently published each year, cover all the main activities of local government from Archives through to Waste Management and rely heavily upon the advice and support of a network of volunteers who specialise in certain local authority services or functions.

Technical Enquiry Service
CIPFA's Technical Enquiry Service provides a further opportunity to share your expertise. The helpdesk provides CIPFA members and students with access to a 'members network' of fellow practitioners willing to give 'hands on', practical guidance and advice on request. Volunteers with specialised knowledge have the opportunity to advise on specific, often complex sectoral issues, as well as contributing to a core of best practice, allowing you to share practical experience and provide support and mentoring to fellow professionals.

'Volunteering is an excellent opportunity to feed comments
and suggestions into the work of CIPFA and to exchange ideas
that can often be taken back to the workplace.'
