Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy

Since I took on a volunteer role the personal rewards have been enormous. I have learnt a valuable new skill and been welcomed by regional council members.

David AndersonOriginally from Chester-le-Street in County Durham, I moved to the picturesque Scottish Borders and started my accountancy adventure with Audit Scotland in 2005 as one of their fresh-faced Graduate Trainee intake. I was initially involved in auditing Edinburgh City Council, and later audited East Lothian Council in the pleasant rural town of Haddington.

At the end of 2006, I moved back to the North-East to be closer to take up a post with Newcastle City Council in Regeneration Finance, where I cut my teeth on the day-to-day world of accountancy. I became involved in Strategic Commissions, PPP projects that involved a lot of modelling and which tested my Excel skills to breaking point.

More recently, at the start of 2008, I moved to North Tyneside Council, working in Strategic Finance as part of the Corporate Financial Advisory Team. More PFI than PPP, the models are becoming more complicated, so I must enjoy the challenge of wrestling meaningful numbers out if them.

I became involved with the North-East Students' Society in late 2007, partly because Richard (the 'visible face' of the Student Society at college) seemed to be doing such a good job, and I thought it would be nice to help out. I am currently studying for the FTPC stage.
