I volunteered several years ago to help out with one Leisure Statistics working party meeting for the Statistical Information Service (SIS). I travelled up from Devon to London, met several new people plus a couple of old faces and agreed to go to the next meeting. Eight years later I have chaired that committee and become a member of the Technical Information Services (TIS) Leisure and Cultural Services editorial board!

I look forward to going to the meetings to share new ideas and meet different leisure professionals from all over the country. I have made some excellent contacts who are always on the end of a phone to answer any professional query that I may have. It has kept me up to date with many current issues and certainly broadened my knowledge base. As well as being rewarding in itself, it has also helped me to develop both personally and professionally.

I thoroughly recommend anyone who feels that they have an expertise in a particular field to offer their services to one of the many working parties. The work is not onerous and is particularly rewarding.
