So far, I have organised workshops on the Initial Professional Development Scheme, presentation skills and speed-reading. They have been held in Bristol, Cardiff, Newport and Pontypridd - I try to hold them across the Region so that everyone can get to at least one of them. Students in the Region have also begun to get involved in helping run the events and to choose which ones would be most useful to them. Last year we organised a wine and cheese night in Bristol, a laid-back evening which, combined with an awards night for students, attracted a good turnout. I have really enjoyed helping to organise events locally as I meet lots of people and have learnt so much about how to run a successful one. Over the next year we will be holding another wine-tasting night, a tapas night, more interview skills and IPDS workshops and a speed-reading course. I set up a student society for South Wales and the West of England three years ago with the aim of running free events for CIPFA students in the Region.
