Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy

Since I took on a volunteer role the personal rewards have been enormous. I have learnt a valuable new skill and been welcomed by regional council members.

Regions

CIPFA's Regions are an essential component of the Institute's organisational structure and are key to maintaining the partnership between CIPFA and its members. CIPFA's ten regional branches and two students' societies play a significant part in the promotion of CIPFA's activities and the provision of services to members and students locally. They thrive on the help of willing volunteers and have a broad range of opportunities for any member or student who is interested in getting involved.

Why not give a little of your time to support your colleagues by helping to organise some of the many events offered by our regional branches and societies. Some 150 regional events are run annually, ranging from conference, weekend schools and evening lectures, through to social events such as annual dinners, golf tournaments and quizzes. All of these events offer opportunities to share innovative ideas and best practice and create valuable local networks. Our regional websites and newsletters and a valuable communications channel and rely on the support of local volunteers for their content and maintenance. Volunteering to assist is an important way of encouraging consultation and communication between CIPFA and its members and students.

Perhaps you may be willing to take on the more regular commitment of becoming a member of your Regional Executive Committee where you can have your say on the delivery of services offered to members and students locally and a direct influence on the development and management of CIPFA's activities through the Board fro the Regions and the Institute Council. You will also have the opportunity to co-operate and liaise with other local professional groups such as AAT and HFMA branches.

Regions have an important role to play in the support of students and the promotion of the CIPFA qualifications and the CPD scheme. As a regional student adviser, recruitment and promotion co-ordinator or CPD adviser you can make a real difference to students and members by providing a valuable support mechanism during their studies and professional development.
